HUD Live Captioning ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application. By using HUD Live Captioning, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
We do NOT collect, store, or transmit any of your conversation audio or transcription data to our servers.
HUD Live Captioning is designed with privacy as the top priority. All speech recognition and transcription happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device Speech framework. Your conversations never leave your device.
The app collects and stores the following information:
- Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, Google, or Email/Password, we collect your name and email address for authentication purposes
- User ID: A unique identifier from Firebase Authentication to link your data
- Conversation History: Saved transcripts are stored in your private Firebase Firestore database (accessible only to you)
- Settings & Preferences: Your app settings (brightness, mirror mode, etc.) are synced to Firebase
- Usage Statistics: Anonymous usage data (number of conversations, transcription time) stored in your Firebase account
- No Audio Data: We never collect, store, or transmit your audio or voice data
- No Conversation Content: While transcripts are stored in Firebase, they are private to your account and we cannot access them
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used solely for the following purposes:
- Authenticate your account using Firebase Authentication
- Sync your conversation history across your devices
- Store your app settings and preferences
- Track your usage statistics for your personal reference
- Provide customer support when you contact us
We do not: Sell your data, share it with third parties for advertising, or use it for any purpose other than providing the app's functionality.
Data Storage
All transcriptions happen on your device using Apple's Speech framework. Your conversation history and settings are stored in:
- Local Storage: UserDefaults on your device for immediate access
- Firebase Firestore: Your private cloud database for cross-device sync
Your Firebase data is:
- Encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
- Stored in Google Cloud Platform data centers
- Private to your account (we cannot access your conversations)
- Governed by Firebase's security rules that prevent unauthorized access
Third-Party Services
HUD Live Captioning uses the following third-party services:
- Apple Speech Framework: On-device speech recognition (no data sent to Apple)
- Firebase Authentication: User authentication (Apple Sign-In, Google Sign-In, Email/Password)
- Firebase Firestore: Cloud database for syncing your data across devices
- Google Sign-In: Optional authentication method
These services are governed by their respective privacy policies:
Data Security
Your data security is important to us. We implement the following security measures:
- All transcription happens on-device (no audio sent to servers)
- Firebase data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
- Firebase security rules prevent unauthorized access to your data
- Authentication required to access your account
- Local data cleared when you sign out for privacy
We recommend:
- Using a strong device passcode
- Enabling Face ID or Touch ID
- Keeping your iOS software up to date
- Using a strong password for Email/Password authentication
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access Your Data: View all your conversation history and settings in the app
- Export Your Data: Export conversations as text files
- Delete Conversations: Delete individual conversations or all conversation history
- Delete Your Account: Permanently delete your account and all associated data from Firebase
- Sign Out: Sign out to clear local data from your device
- Opt Out of Sync: Use the app offline (transcription still works, but data won't sync)
Data Retention
Your data is retained as follows:
- Conversation History: Stored indefinitely until you delete it or delete your account
- Account Information: Stored as long as your account exists
- Local Data: Cleared when you sign out
- Deleted Account Data: Permanently deleted from Firebase when you delete your account
Children's Privacy
HUD Live Captioning is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
